Healthy Changes in Our School Cafeterias!

Dear Corning Union Elementary School Families,

CUESD school cafeterias are meeting tough new federal nutrition standards for school meals, ensuring that meals are healthy and well-balanced and provide students all the nutrition they need to succeed at school.  Now is a great time to encourage your kids to choose school breakfast and lunch!

School meals offer students milk, fruits and vegetables, proteins and grains and they must meet strict limits on saturated fat and portion size.  All school lunches will beet state standards requiring:

  • Age-appropriate calorie limits
  • Larger servings of vegetables and fruits (students must take at least one serving of produce)
  • A wider variety of vegetables, including dark green and red/orange vegetables and legumes
  • Fat-free or 1% milk (flavored milk must be fat-free)
  • More whole grains
  • And less sodium

We're always working to offer CUESD students healthier and tastier choices.  When available, we offer locally grown fruit.

School meals are a great value and a huge convenience for busy families too!  Meals can be paid for online at

Food service will no longer be providing an alternate component for children with food allergies or intolerances.  Substitutions will only be provided for children with a disability as defined under section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act with a signed statement from a licensed physician stating that the allergy may result in severe, life threatening (anaphylactic) reaction.  The doctor's statement must also include substitutions.

Our School Messenger phone service will be doing automated calls to remind you when your student needs lunch money.

We look forward to welcoming your children to the cafeteria this fall!

Leslie Passantino, Food Service Supervisor.
